How to win lane as Zed against Swain · 53.02% win rate (2,980 Emerald+ games, lolalytics, sampled July 2026) · Matchup data reviewed on patch 26.15
You were drafted to end exactly this — scissor the poke war, chip past 60%, and let Death Mark do the literature.
Track: Swain's R — Demonic Ascension (120s cooldown). His drain mode — disengage and reset the fight when it starts.
Read from Zed's seat: which stage windows this plan plays for against Swain.
This is Zed's own plan; across 2,980 pooled games the lane is leaning Zed.
| Stage | Favoured | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | Even / skill | Immobile, soul-less Swain can't punish your level-1 poke. |
| Level 2 | Even / skill | At 2 his E-W catch-combo makes the trade even. |
| Level 3 | Even / skill | Level 3 your poke out-values his weak early damage. |
| Levels 4-5 | Even / skill | Through 4-5 he stays fragile and behind on souls against your pressure. |
| Level 6 | Even / skill | Death Mark at 6 kills a low Swain caught outside his healing range. |
| First item | Even / skill | First-item lethality spikes you before his HP/drain items come online. |
| Two+ items | Swain | Fully stacked Swain out-sustains and out-scales you in the late game. |
You get the better of the opening levels. Swain is immobile and low on souls early, so your shuriken poke and E-shadow pressure chip him while he can only react. His whole trade hinges on landing Nevermove — dodge that E and his W-Q follow-up does little, then step up and punish him during the long root cooldown. Level 2 is closer since his E-W combo can catch you.

Zed, slightly — a 53.02% win rate edge over 2,980 games; execution can flip it.
Mostly — Zed has a small statistical edge (53.02% win rate), but execution decides this lane far more than the pick does.
Not a hard counter — Zed has a slight edge (53.02% win rate), and play quality decides the rest.
Zed takes Electrocute on the Domination tree with Sudden Impact, Grisly Mementos and Ultimate Hunter, and Precision secondary (Presence of Mind and Coup de Grace) vs Swain.
Start Doran's Blade + Health Potion and back for Executioner's Calling (≈800g) — cuts his sustain. Build Profane Hydra / Eclipse first, then Serylda's / Axiom Arc, with Mercury's Treads / Lucidity.
