How to win lane as Hwei against Swain · 54.59% win rate over 1,449 Emerald+ games · Updated 2026-07-27
| Stage | Favoured | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | Hwei | Slow, telegraphed abilities mean you outpoke him from level 1 with no punish available to him |
| Level 2 | Hwei | Same story at level 2 — his root has to land first and rarely does against your range |
| Level 3 | Hwei | Levels 3-5 you keep winning every poke exchange thanks to superior range and damage |
| Levels 4-5 | Hwei | Still ahead through level 5 as his kit offers no way to close the gap safely |
| Level 6 | Even / skill | His ultimate's AoE drain-heal is a real threat if you get caught, roughly even if he lands the engage |
| First item | Hwei | Post-6 you resume control by playing around the ult radius and continuing to poke |
| Two+ items | Hwei | Your burst combo remains ahead of his healing output even into the early item phase |
Swain's kit is slow and telegraphed — Death's Hand travels in a line and Torment has short root range, both of which your longer Q/E poke punishes cleanly. He can't out-trade you level 1-2 without landing that root first, and even then your damage output is higher per rotation. Keep your distance, poke every time his root is down, and you win nearly every extended trade through level 5.
