How to win the jungle race as Zac against Karthus · Matchup data reviewed on patch 26.15
Read from Zac's seat: the race windows this plan plays for against Karthus.
| Stage | Read | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 Clear | Even Skirmish | Lay Waste melts camps at record pace, and that is worth exactly what you bring: blob sustain keeps your clear healthy, but champion trades are losers. Contest your opening camps when your health bar is the higher one and not before. |
| Level 2 Skirmish | Even Skirmish | Even on the second camp, for a concrete reason — Wall of Pain slows cover their disengage, while Elastic Slingshot is for ganks — charge it from fog, never into duels. Close the gap immediately — at melee range his Q damage halves and he folds, and let the camp timers choose the fight for you. |
| Level 3 Route | Even Skirmish | Dead-even at the opening scuttle: stay a gank threat, not a duelist; your E from fog wins lanes, not buff pits, while Lay Waste melts camps at record pace. Whoever arrives with more HP and cooldowns wins, so track their clear and pick the moment. |
| Levels 4-5 Macro | Respect Karthus — Path Opposite | Do not trade windows with Karthus here: he out-farms the map through 4-5 — Defile clears at a rate nobody matches and Requiem is coming. Path opposite, keep your entrances warded, and answer the map, not the champion. |
| Level 6 Breakpoint | Respect Karthus's R | Karthus wins the breakpoint outright — Requiem cashes their farm lead into cross-map kills, and Requiem finishes you from anywhere — every low-HP recall is a coin flip now. Base at higher HP thresholds and remember Death Defied still kills over his corpse, then trade objectives cross-map until your items land. |
| First Item Spike | Tank Item Spike | Your first tank item plus level advantage makes you functionally unkillable to Karthus's early-game damage. Camp clears stabilize and your blob health stays topped, letting you play engage-bot for whichever lane is winning. Force fights at Dragon where your E from the river wall arrives unannounced. Karthus' first item is where Lay Waste stops chipping and starts taking a third of a health bar per cast. |
| 2+ Items Scaling | Respect Karthus Late — End Early | The full-build comparison goes to Karthus: he deals damage from anywhere and keeps dealing it dead — Death Defied buys the fight. Play for picks and objectives, and end before the fight has to be fair. |
Start the buff opposite your intended gank side and clear toward your E power farm — collect every bloblet or your sustain math collapses. Track Karthus's start through lane leashes so your slow first clear never crosses their path. Karthus has the fastest clear in the game with Lay Waste and Defile, and he will always be a level ahead if left alone.
