How to win the jungle race as Volibear against Trundle · Matchup data reviewed on patch 26.15
Read from Volibear's seat: the race windows this plan plays for against Trundle.
| Stage | Read | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 Clear | Respect Trundle | At level 1 this window belongs to Trundle: Chomp (Q) steals AD on hit, so their level-1 trade is rigged in their favor, and Chomp steals your AD mid-fight and Pillar traps you inside his Frozen Domain. Refuse extended trades in his W zone and save your dash until after Pillar lands. Skip the level-1 crossing and bank tempo on the opposite side of the map. |
| Level 2 Skirmish | Respect Trundle | Chomp steals your AD mid-fight and Pillar traps you inside his Frozen Domain — Volibear has no answer to that at level 2. Frozen Domain (W) attack speed makes their buff-pit duel one of the best in the game on their half of the map too, so refuse the level-2 skirmish and answer the pressure cross-map. |
| Level 3 Route | Respect Trundle | Pillar (E) cuts the escape — with Q AD-steal and W haste the duel is theirs, and Volibear has no clean answer to it at the opening scuttle — Chomp steals your AD mid-fight and Pillar traps you inside his Frozen Domain. Refuse extended trades in his W zone and save your dash until after Pillar lands, and give up the first scuttle rather than the kill. |
| Levels 4-5 Macro | Respect Trundle — Path Opposite | You lose the 4-5 duel. He uses 4-5 to steal camps and contest your jungle, where Pillar of Ice cuts off every retreat — so let them have that half of the map and cash the other half faster. |
| Level 6 Breakpoint | Respect Trundle's R | Subjugate steals your health and resists and beats you with your own stats — Volibear loses the straight post-6 duel. Disengage the moment the drain lands — deny the follow-up while the stolen stats decay, and shift your pressure to the side of the map Subjugate is not on. |
| First Item Spike | Sundered Sky Spike | Completing your core item triggers a massive damage, health, and burst healing multiplier that completely overpowers traditional brawlers. Trundle's first item is a real threshold — the sustain plus stat theft makes long fights ones he cannot lose. |
| 2+ Items Scaling | Even Scaling — Prep Decides | Even at full build. Since he steals your stats mid-fight, so the longer the duel runs the worse it gets, win the vision around the pit first and the fight second. |
Start your clear at the Blue or Red Buff camp utilizing your E shield and nuke to maximize early clear speed. Trundle clears fast in Frozen Domain and heals off King's Tribute, so he arrives at every crossing at full health.

Trundle pressures 5 of the 7 windows in this race — survive the early game and scale into your windows.
Not exactly — Trundle pressures 5 of the 7 windows, so Volibear is playing catch-up and has to lean on the map.
